GOREME
After breakfast, visit the enchanting regoin of Goreme
viewing more of the colored earth pyramids and cliff churches with their
frescoes. Then, return to hotel.
URGUP/AKSARAY/EREGLI/DERBE/KARAMAN/LYSTRA/KONYA
Depart
Cappadocia travelling along the old caravan routes to Aksaray, one of the
major trading sites. Turn south and drive to Eregli. Then see the ancient
site, Derbe which was the furtherst point reaced by Paul and Barnabas on
their first missionary journey. The location is uncertain. Later, visit the
second site, Lystra. Drive through the “valley of the thousand churches”
and continue through the plain of Konya,Turkey’s largest agricultural
regoin. Time permiting, stop by the excavations of Catal Hoyuk, perhaps
the world’s oldest settlement. Continue to Lystra, the modern town of
Hatunsaray, where Paul and Barnabas preached with great success, but finally
fled after being threatened with stoning. Spend the night
in Konya.
KONYA/BEYSEHIR/YALVAC/EGIRDIR/ISPARTA/DENIZLI/PAMUKKALE
In the morning, a tour of Konya. Opportunity to see its medieval
monuments. Stop to see the Alaeddin mosque, the dome of stars in the
Karatay Medrese and the Green Dome housing the tomb of the Mevlana,
founder of the order of whirling dervishes. After the tour, depart Konya,
and drive to Turkey’s lovely lake district. Stop at Beysehir to see its
mosque and contınue to Yalvac, near the site of ancient Antioch of
Pisidia. Paul delivered one of his three great sermons preserved in the
book Acts here. Continue through the lake district, stoppıng by the pretty
towns of Egirdir and Isparta, renowned for its altar of roses, before
travelling to Pamukkale via Denizli for the evening.
PAMUKKALE/DENIZLI/PAMUKKALE
After
breakfast, drive to Denizli, the ancient city of Laodicia. This was one of
the seven cities of the Apocalypse to which St. John addressed his letter
to the "SEVEN CHURCHES OF ASIA" It is impressive and remarkable because it
has not had any excavations. Continue to Pamukkale, once the site of
ancient Hierapolis, which is now Turkey's most famous' spa. Tour the ancient city, the
petrified calcium cascades and stalactites, and the temple of Apollo and
Martyr of St. Philip. After the tour, return to hotel for dinner. |
