Ihlamur Kasri Istanbul

Ihlamur Kasri, the linden pavilion, is, in fact, two pavilions, part of a royal park established by Ahmet III in the early 18th century. Over a century later Abdul Mecit I built a kiosk here where he entertained special guests, including the French poet Lamartine.

Later, between 1849 and 1855, he commissioned Nigogos Balyan to replace it with the more grandiose pair of pavilions that we see today.

Back of the garden, with an ornamental pool in front of it, stands the Merasim Kosku, the ceremonial kiosk, which boasts an extravagantly baroque exterior with flamboyant carved decoration. Rugs are from the imperial mills at Hereke and crystal chandeliers are from Bohemia.

Mehmet V Resat 1909-1918 received foreign heads of state in the pavilions, including the King of Bulgaria and Serbia. During the 1950 and 1960 the pavilions were opened as museums. Both pavilions have recently been restored and re-opened to the public.
