The village is bathed on the
south by one of the two rivers known to Europeans as the Sweet Waters of
Asia. This on is called in Turkish Goksu, Sky Stream, the other. a few
hundred meters to the south, is Kucuksu, Little Stream. Between them
stretches a lovely meadow with a small palace and an elaborate fountain,
the favorite resort on holidays in Ottoman times, it is still resort.
The little palace
Kucuksu, built on the site of
several earlier and much prettier ones, was erected in 1856 by Abdul Mecit, the architect being as usual Nigagos Balyan. The Goksu is a very
pretty river and one can row up it for a considerable distance to a
pleasant cafe and a pottery works.
